Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for their scent and therapeutic effect. It is a holistic healing process for the body and the mind. The basis of this therapy lies in essential oils contained in plant materials. These can be found in leaves, flowers, roots, seeds, bark and resin. These oils are highly concentrated and when extracted, can either be used in a pure form or diluted and blended with other oils to produce the required strength. 


Many people think solely of essential oils when they think of aromatherapy oils. But these can include different types of oils that help in the practice of aromatherapy. Here are some of the oils that can be used in aromatherapy. 


Curing Diseases with Aromatherapy


Aromatherapy can help in treating various diseases.Aromatherapy oils are used to strengthen the immune system, cleanse the body and relieve tension. Aromatherapy could be effective in curing ailments like insomnia, headache, hair loss, indigestion, fatigue and cold. 


Insomnia and Restlessness


Instead of relying on sleeping pills for a good night's sleep, aromatic oils can be used very effectively.  Essential oils that help in treating insomnia are: Sandalwood, Chamomile, Ylang-Ylang, Marjoram Neroli and Lavender. 


Procedure for Usage


Pour 10 drops of the aromatic oil blend in your bath and soak well. Have a  warm water bath before hitting the bed. Its going be a real good night's sleep. 


Headache and Migraine


Aromatherapy could help in reducing headache or migraine. Aromatic oils that could assist you in treating headaches are: Lavender, Sandalwood, Peppermint, Rosemary and Eucalyptus. Ginger oil is also recommended for treating nausea. 


Procedure for Usage


Pour 12 drops of the essential oil blend and massage it in your temples, base of your skull and forehead. An early massage could prevent a serious, full-blown headache.


Hair Loss


Aromatherapy could be an effective method of treating hair loss. Aromatherapy oils helpful in preventing hair loss are Lavender, Lemon, Rosemary, Ylang-Ylang, Grapefruit, Cedar Wood, Roman Chamomile and Jojoba Oil, Pimento, Wheat germ oil and Coconut oil. Essential oil blend to induce hair growth include Bay, Grapefruit, Cedar wood, Jojoba oil, Lemon, Lavender, Rosemary and Roman Chamomile. 


Procedure for Usage


Add two drops of the essential oil blend to vegetable oil and mix well. Massage it onto the scalp before wrapping up the hair with a plastic wrap. Leave it overnight. Apply shampoo in the morning. Do avoid medicated shampoos, as they could damage the sebum balance.


Indigestion and Flatulence


Aromatherapy could soothe the process of digestion. Essential oils like: Peppermint, Blend Orange and Chamomile oils can help in curing indigestion. 


Procedure for Usage


Blend Peppermint oil with Orange and Chamomile oils to cure indigestion.Flatulence could be reduced by inhaling a drop of peppermint aroma from your handkerchief. 


Fatigue and Depression


Aromatic oils can relieve you of your depression. Essential oils used in relieving depression are Rose, Basil, Clary Sage, Jasmine and German Chamomile.

Blend essential oils like Rose, Basil, Clary Sage, Jasmine and German Chamomile together and pour 5 or 6 drops into your bath.


Cold and Flu


Aromatherapy oils can help you if you are struggling with cold. Start using aromatic oils as soon as you feel the symptoms of cold.

For the clarity of mind mix oils of Basil, Peppermint, Spearmint, Tangerine and Lemon grass in Sesame oil.  




Persons suffering from influenza can put oils of Eucalyptus and Tea Tree oil in the inhaler and inhale to get relief.   




Last but not the least, aromatherapy has a stress buster solution too. Take a few drops of Basil, Lavender, Orange or Ylang-Ylang oil. Apply using a diffuser, putting some drops on a handkerchief or rubbing onto chest.
