Cardiac diet and eight lossCardiac diet is also known as fad diet as it can cause weight loss very fast. This diet contains very low calories and don't provide complete nutrition required by your body, so it's not safe to stay on these diets for an extended period of time. This diet plan is especially designed for people with heart problems.

Cardiac diet promotes weight loss and it also prevents the future development of any heart disease. It is also referred as 7 day diet plan. The diet causes you to lose actual body fat and not water. The combination of food in this diet causes weight loss due to a chemical reaction. The various ingredients of this diet loss are:

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are an important component of the Cardiac Diet. Fruits and vegetables contain essential vitamins and nutrients necessary to maintain overall health. In addition, fruits and vegetables are low in calories, which help a person to lose weight. The high fiber content improves glucose absorption in the digestive tract, resulting in better blood glucose control. A diet full of fruits and vegetables help to control blood pressure also. Thus, it is good for heart patients who want to lose weight.

Whole Grains

The cardiac diet incorporates a large amount of whole grains such as cereals, brown rice and pastas.  The whole grains contain large amounts of fiber which makes you feel full after any meal. Feeling full during meal can effectively cause weight loss. Also it lowers cholesterol levels when eaten regularly.

In cardiac diet fish forms an important component. Fish contain omega-3 fatty acids which raises the amount of high-density lipoprotein or HDL (good cholesterol). HDL cholesterol decreases the amount of plaque that accumulates in the blood vessels, thus preventing the clogging of arteries and also reduces the risk of cardiac diseases. Apart from this, fish are rich in proteins which help to increase muscle mass.

Low Salt

Low sodium or salt content is beneficial for people suffering from health diseases. Sodium or salt causes water to move into the blood vessels resulting in increased blood pressure. So the heart has to pump harder against the higher pressure to move blood throughout your body. This can cause heart attack or stroke.

The cardiac diet recommends choosing healthier foods and does not promote the denial of a specific food group. Its main aim is to have a healthy heart rather than weight loss.

The cardiac diet emphasizes on a balanced diet with recommended ratios of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Although this diet is known to lose weight very quickly, it is believed that most of the weight loss is may be due to water weight.
