Can diabetes be cured? The disease and the problems due to diabetes can well managed and even prevented by some measures. Find out.

Currently there is no cure for type 2 diabetes or type 1 diabetes. Research for potential cure for diabetes is going on. The researchers are trying to transplant insulin-producing cells into people with diabetes. Insulin is the hormone that helps in metabolism of glucose or blood sugar. Lack or insufficient insulin in the body causes diabetes.

But the disease and the complications due to diabetes can well managed — or even prevented by measures such as;

  • Eating healthy foods,
  • Regular exercises and
  • Maintaining a healthy body weight (or body mass index of    18.5 -24.9)
  • Medications: In addition to the above measures some people may need medications to control blood sugar.

Treatment of diabetes includes;

  • Regular blood sugar monitoring
  • Healthy eating habits
  • Regular physical activity or exercise
  • Oral medications or insulin therapy (as required).
