This finding from the University of California has pushed the researchers to find new drugs which may decrease the severity in later stages of this disease.
From a long time, scientists are trying to develop methods to diagnose Alzheimer’s in an early stage. This finding from the University of California also helps in diagnosing the disease in cases where no symptom is shown in adults.
There is no treatment for this disease at present but hopefully, it will be developed soon by this new finding. Previously, the disease prognosis was done by mapping of the brain after patient’s death. This new technology uses PET scanner (Positron Emission Tomography) and can find the changes at a cellular level in an organ very precisely.
The study included 53 adults with 5 young and 33 old adults with no neurodegenerative disorder. The remaining 15 adults included in disease were suspected to have Alzheimer’s disease.
The result of brain mapping clearly showed that the 15 adults who suspected to have disease showed sticky amyloid plaques and tau protein tangles.
So, in future, we may have the drugs that can help fight Alzheimer’s in the early stage.
