Your blood group can tell if you are at a risk of heart disease, says study.

Your blood group clue to heart disease riskAccording to a study by researchers at the Harvard University, people with AB, A or B blood group are at an increased risk of developing heart diseases compared with people with O blood group.


To do the study, the researchers compared the blood groups and heart diseases incidence, though they did not analyse the complex biological mechanisms that were involved. The age, The researchers from the University concluded from the study that people with blood group AB were 23% more likely to suffer from heart disease, while those with B blood group being 11% likely and those with type A being 5% likely.


It was found that people with A and B blood group are at an increased risk of heart disease and those with AB blood group-the rarest type of blood group-are exposed to cardiac ailments. The scientists also found that people with O blood group can benefit from a substance that is believed to help in blood flow and reduce clotting. Lu Qi, lead researcher, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, said that though a person’s blood group cannot be changed, the people must be aware of their blood group to be able to reduce the risk by adhering to a healthier lifestyle, such as exercising, eating healthful food and not smoking.
