A research had recently revealed that couples are more likely to sleep in sync if the wife is more satisfied with the marriage. Heather Gunn, a post-doctoral scholar at the University of Pittsburgh said, "Most of what is known about sleep comes from studying it at the individual level. However, for most adults, sleep is a shared behaviour between bed partners". "How couples sleep together may influence and be influenced by their relationship functioning," she further said.

insomniaResults of the study show that the overall synchrony in sleep-wake schedules among couples was generally high as those people sho slept in the same bed were awake or asleep at the same time about 75 percent of the time. When the wife reported higher level of satusfaction with her marriage, the percent of time that couples were awake or sleeping together was greater.

To come to this conclusion, the researchers studied at least 46 couples who had completed their relationship assessments. An objective sleep data over a 10-day period was also gathered from the married couples. Gunn noted that the sleep of married couples is more in sync on a minute-by-minute basis compared with the sleep of random people.

She said, "This suggests that our sleep patterns are regulated not only by when we sleep, but also by with whom we sleep.

The research was published only in the Journal "Sleep".
