You may be under a short or a long antibiotic regimen depending on the severity of the infection. Take your medication even when your symptoms seem to have disappeared as this will help ensure that the infection is completely eradicated. Not taking your medications well could increase the seriousness of the infection.


Cranberry has been found to be effective for urinary tract infection, though it is not really a cure. Cranberry does something in the bladder wall so as to build up resistance, so one must take it on a routine basis. You could either take cranberry juice or the pills; however the pills will help you to avoid sugar and will also give you a sufficient dose.

Fluid Intake

Also, drinking lots of water will help you to prevent cystitis. Therefore, you should choose water over any other beverage. You could also drink non-caffeinated tea and other healthy drinks like natural juices made at home. You should try to avoid caffeine as it could dehydrate you, and also avoid sugary drinks and alcohol.

Water and Baking Soda

This is a home remedy that would give you relief, just stir 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda into one cup of water and drink it. This baking soda neutralizes acid in your urine and thus makes urinating less painful. You must not overdo this because the baking soda can actually be disturbing the balance in your intestine. The key again is to drink lots of water.
