Now this is something we have always had an inkling about. Drinking in excess harms our health. However, a new study has now firmly established that binge drinking may harm our memory.

Binge drinking is a habit that many people are taking recourse too in today’s day and age. The alcohol dependence is so acute that rather than moderately drinking, people tend to do it all in one day. This shocks the internal system of the body and the study says that it affects our brain the most. Binge drinking most adversely affects young adults. Most of this group is as young as 18 years old. The long term memory takes a beating due to binge drinking. The Spanish researchers who conducted this research found that binge drinkers over a period time are unable to learn new things. Hippocampus is that part of the brain that is most affected by alcohol. Hippocampus plays a pivotal role in learning and memory.

This new research is indeed disturbing in nature as binge drinking is slowly becoming a widely acceptable trend practiced by all. It throws new challenges for understanding alcohol dependence.
