Ayurveda vata dietAyurvedic vata diet can bring about a dosha balance for the desired mind/body constitution. It is important to note that vata dosha influences feelings, thoughts, nerve impulses and body fluids.  For them to get into a perfect flow, it is necessary to incorporate the ayurveda vata diet and stick to it.


What to eat and what not to eat:

  • Consume moderately thick textures such as butter and fat and warm foods.
  • Warm milk, butter, stew, cream, hot cereals and a few other soothing food items are good in calming down vata. This dosha is characterised by dryness, so warm nourishing food is always wondrous in maintaining balance. Cold foods on the other hand, are not meant for individuals with vata dosha, so avoid ice drinks, salads, and raw vegetables because it will always fail to balance vata with diet.
  • There is a reason to rejoice because sweet, sour and salty foods are good for vata dosha.
  • Go for herbal tea with snacks in the early evening. Vata gets afflicted by caffeine so abstain from it.
  • Add in moist food such as cereals and grains in your meals. Hot oatmeal and vegetable soup will do a good job as well.
  • If you love spicy food, remain faithful to it since spicy cuisine cooked in oil such as Indian and Mexican are good ayurveda diets.
  • Take hot cereals such as rice and wheat cream for breakfast. In whole, take a warm and sweet breakfast.
  • Warm milk is a really good vata diet. Feel free to enhance its taste by adding honey or sugar to it.
  • You can pacify vata with nuts.
  • Certain vegetables such as asparagus, beets, cucumber, carrots, green beans, garlic, sweet potatoes, turnips, radishes should be preferred over broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, Brussels sprouts, celery, peas, sprouts, tomatoes, zucchini and mushrooms to balance vata with diet.
  • Your ayurveda vata diet must consist of sweet fruits, bananas, berries, coconut, cherries, grapefruit, mangos, sweet melons, pineapple, plums, stewed fruits, lemons, grapes, avocados and plums.
  • Apples, pears and pomegranates must be reduced or avoided for best results.
  • Reach out to dairy products since they all are good vata balancers.
  • Favour pink lentils, mung beans, chick peas and say no to all the other kinds of beans.
  • Olive oil and sesame oil make good ayurvedic vata diet.
  • Include herbs and spices such as Tarragon, mace, mustard, sage, liquorice root, ginger, cumin, caraway, clove, bay leaf, asafoetida, and allspice to your diet. Try to avoid saffron, fenugreek, parsley, turmeric and coriander seeds.

It is important to note that vata dosh aggravates during the beginning of winter and autumn. The need is to plan a good ayurvedic diet based on treatment of vata dosh so that mind/body constitution is strong.
