Affects protein synthesis and decreases the production of growth hormone

Researches suggest that consumption of alcohol affects protein synthesis which results in decrease in lean muscle mass. Through protein synthesis, your body supplies the much needed amount of protein to your muscles in order to grow. Besides, your binge drinking also causes havoc on your growth hormone. You will be surprised to know that alcohol abuse can slow down production of the growth hormone by 70 percent. Yes, that’s right. So, instead of cribbing that you are not growing like others,  you better cut down on your liquor intake!

Slows down recovery

Although, not much research is available to support this claim, but experts believe that it works fine in tricking people to stop binge drinking. So, instead of popping pills every time your muscles break down after workout, how about you limit your alcohol intake in first place. You will see the real difference once you actually do this.

It takes toll on your metabolism and leads to weight gain

So, what happens inside your body on consuming alcohol? Well, your body burns alcohol for energy which results in pushing calories from carbohydrates and fats to the back of the line. So, it’s in your best interest to stay away from alcohol if you are trying to lose weight.

Accelerates dehydration and prevents muscle from holding water

It’s a well-known fact that hydrated muscle cells offer an ideal environment for anabolic growth. And consumption of alcohol robs this water from your muscle cells, thereby hindering muscle growth. Besides, consumption of alcohol obstructs with absorption of essential nutrients that are needed for muscle contraction and relaxation.

Testosterone levels fall beyond imagination
