If you haven’t heard of this term you will soon. And if you have heard of it, it’s likely that you have heard some mixed opinions about it. Some believe that adrenal fatigue can really affect a person’s overall health while other disregard adrenal fatigue as a myth. So what is this adrenal fatigue about? The adrenal gland, located on top of the kidneys, has a main purpose of releasing hormones in response to stress. This is done by synthesizing corticosteroids such as cortisol, as well as catecholamines such as epinephrine, also known as adrenaline.
Cortisol is a glucocorticoid that is released in response to stress and low level of blood glucocorticoids, to increase blood sugar through glucogenesis, suppress the immune system, and aid in fat, carbohydrate, and protein metabolism. Epinephrine is released when the body becomes stressed or threatened. This is indicated by an increase in heart rate, constriction of blood vessels, and dilation of air passages.
Simply put, adrenal fatigue is a term used to describe that the adrenal glands are exhausted and unable to produce adequate amounts of hormones, cortisol and epinephrine. Although adrenal fatigue is not recognised by any medical association, it is still a common term in the alternative medicine systems.

Meditate: Meditation can help you fix your endocrine system, which involves the adrenal glands, by relieving stress and allowing your body to recover from exhaustion from emotional and physical stress.
A good massage can help you distress your mind and body which is crucial for your endocrine system to return to its normal functioning state. Don’t however expect miracles to happen from just one massage because you may need to get them for a few weeks. You will but eventually start feeling better.
It is believed that yoga can help you deal with your hormonal and chemical imbalances. Perform some meditational yoga that provides relief from stress and allows the body to fix all the chemical imbalances.
Take a break from your schedule once in a while. It will help you break the monotony of emotional as well as physical changes in the body.
Make sure you get at least seven hours of uninterrupted sleep every night and you will notice a lot of improvement in your mood, physical fitness as well as response to stress and fear.
Make sure you are eating a balanced diet that includes a good balance of proteins, carbs, and fats.
Several stimulants such as caffeine, smoking and even medicines can have side-effects on your endocrine system. Do take all your medicines and enjoy your cups of coffee but take them as and when prescribed or required.
