Researchers for many years have been trying to devise a newer method of birth control which will not affect the hormonal health of women. Therefore, now they are trying to come up with a birth control pill which will retard the release of the egg from the ovary itself. It is being believed that this new birth control pill will affect the process of ovulation.
Researchers at the Oregon Health and Science University are working towards this revolutionary birth control pill and are of the opinion that this pill will be more accessible to women and cheaper. Therefore, it will directly and positively affect the towering numbers of unwanted births. Moreover, this birth control pill is expectedly to do away with the strict dosage regimen that has to be followed in case of the present pills. The birth control pills that are widely circulated today actually accelerate the release of enzymes and hormones that affect a woman’s menstrual cycle, thereby affecting ovulation. Such action often gives rise to the risk of cardiovascular diseases and the strict schedule of taking the pills reduces their efficacy by at least 15%.
The new birth control pill is expected to do away with these problems. And by not affecting the monthly cycle of ovulation, it will also be safer. It will focus of the technique inside the body that is responsible for the release of the egg from the ovary. Research has already identified the enzymes that are responsible for the release of the egg. This has been achieved by conducting tests on the rhesus macaque monkeys whose reproductive system is similar to humans. In fact, tests have already confirmed that by targeting the aforementioned enzymes, the release of the egg from the ovary can be prevented in the monkeys.
The next step in the research is to find a suitable delivery method for the pill and also a preferred timetable for the same.
This new birth control pill will hopefully be a better method of contraception and will also be able to release women from the drudgery of being bound to a strict pill-taking schedule.
