Gone are the days when Van Dam used to have female fans drooling over his big guns, now they usually lie in bed waiting for Edward Cullen to sweep them off their loneliness. Not just because Mr. Cullen is a vampire, but also because he is lean and thin. New study says women find thin men more attractive as potential partners rather than those who look ‘macho’.
What we knew as macho, is no more in vogue, as women of the modern world are more attracted by lean men, and would like them to be their partner, the research pointed out that weight may be a more powerful driver of attraction as they found testosterone levels were more closely linked with weight than with macho looks. Researchers in South Africa found that while women still do respond more favourably to the faces and bodies of men with strong immune responses, what they take into consideration when picking a male partner is fatness and thinness, and not macho features.
What macho features such as a strong jaw say about a man is that he possesses high testosterone, according to the immune competence handicap hypothesis. However, the problem with immune competence handicap hypothesis is that masculinity is not universally attractive to women.
