    Have you been feeling pain in your abdomen lately or do you complain of gas in the stomach often? All these signs along with a couple of more symptoms can be indicating a severe trouble called irritable bowel syndrome. It is a disorder affecting the large intestine. To recognize the syndrome you must make yourself completely aware because the symptoms of the disorder resemble some other diseases.

    Pain in the Abdomen

    A constant pain in the abdomen or cramping can be an important sign of irritable bowel syndrome. Many of us think it to be normal to have pain in the abdomen because it is often mistaken for indigestion. But, you may be wrong here.

    Bloated Feeling

    A bloated feeling in the stomach does not necessarily mean heaviness caused by over-eating. The bloat may also mean that your large intestine is calling for some attention.

    Gas

    Factors like food, indigestion, etc. are always associated with gas formation. Hence, even if you encounter the problem every day it does not take you a second thought before blaming the spices in the food. But, stay cautious because there can be other culprits too.

    Diarrhea or Constipation

    You may suffer from diarrhea or constipation or at times, you may have to deal with alterating bout of constipation and diarrhea. All this can be a sign of some problem in your large intestine.

    Mucus in Stool

    If you have been noticing mucus in the stool and treating it to be normal, you must prepare yourself to pay a heavy price. It is an indication of irritable bowel syndrome and requires medical care.

    Rectal Bleeding

    If you have observed bleeding from the rectum, you must not ignore it. An immediate medical help must be taken whenever you notice a change in the bowel habits as a severe condition may be underlying.

    Weight Loss

    It may happen that even after eating the right diet, you may not be able to maintain the right weight. An unexplained weight loss must never be overlooked because it can be an important signal of irritable bowel syndrome.
