That’s because losing a significant amount of weight without an apparent reason is neither common nor normal. So, if you’re losing weight and haven’t changed anything in your diet or activity, you may need to worry about that a little bit.
She explains, its normal to have small or temporary weight fluctuations like gaining a few pounds while on vacation or losing a few after a stomach bug or other such digestive problems, but noticeable weight shifts when you’re not trying to lose weight could be an indication of a serious health condition.
Weight loss is one of the most common symptoms of hyperthyroidism. If you’re shedding weight even though you’ve not changed anything in your diet or not even trying to lose weight, it’s better to get yourself checked for thyroid issue.

It might just be that your body is literally peeing out glucose, as it can’t absorb it and that’s what drives you thirsty. Diabetes also causes your body to suck nourishment from your muscles, triggering sudden weight loss.
Most people are aware of the fact that loss of appetite is a common side-effect of clinical depression, no surprises that it promotes significant weight loss. Irritability, heavy drinking, not able to take decisions, and sleeping problems are other common symptoms of depression.
Inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or some types of infection can affect sufferer's appetite, causing weight loss. These conditions can also cause inflammation in your gut, which could mess with nutrient absorption and result in weight loss.
